35 Years of Heritage Minutes
Aba Amuquandoh celebrates trailblazing artist Jackie Shane
For This Hour Has 22 Minutes cast member Aba Amuquandoh, Jackie Shane’s Heritage Minute is a celebration of a trailblazing artist who helped shape Toronto’s music scene while refusing to compromise who she was.
As a Black, transgender soul singer, Shane broke barriers in music and challenged expectations about gender, race and identity. Her story is a reminder that Canadian history is full of artists and icons whose voices deserve to be heard, remembered and celebrated.
In 2026, we’re celebrating 35 years of the Heritage Minutes with Canadians reflecting on the stories that continue to shape our understanding of the country. Join us each week as we explore Canada’s history — minute by minute.
