The fallout from the October Crisis continued with Jacques Rose’s acquittal in the murder of Pierre Laporte, Québec’s minister of labour. The previous year, Rose had also been acquitted in Laporte’s kidnapping. FLQ radicals kidnapped Laporte on Oct. 10, 1970. His body was found seven days later. In both trials, witnesses refused to testify. Rose was finally convicted of being an accessory after the fact in the kidnapping. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.
