Former Skowkale First Nation chief Steven Point was named British Columbia’s first Indigenous lieutenant-governor. Before his appointment by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, he served as a provincial court judge and treaty negotiator. During his time at Government House, the lieutenant-governor’s official residence, Point carved a dugout canoe, which he presented to the B.C. legislature.
