The Web Officer will be an individual who is passionate about the work of Historica Canada, has had experience working with a team to achieve deliverables in a timely fashion and is enthusiastic about celebrating and promoting the stories of Canada’s cultural and linguistic diversity. The successful candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and flexible.

The responsibilities of the Web Officer, include:

  • Editing and updating content on Historica Canada websites;
  • Bug testing and reproduction on Historica Canada websites;
  • Assist in testing and collecting notes on website redevelopment;
  • Reviewing HTML of new and updated articles on The Canadian Encyclopedia (TCE);
  • Uploading translated content to TCE;
  • Tagging and categorizing articles on TCE;
  • Work with editors on TCE to create interactive content for their articles;
  • Assist Communications team with recommendations tied to SEO in outreach;
  • Tracking and reporting web analytics;
  • Creating budget trackers and template spreadsheets in excel;
  • Complete other duties, as assigned by the senior management team.


  • University or College degree in related field;
  • New grads welcome, no previous professional experience required
  • Some experience with content management systems;
  • Knowledge of, and experience with HTML coding
  • Working ability to read, and understand French is required;
  • Excellent email etiquette
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Team player;
  • Flexible and easily adaptable to change;
  • Experience with Photoshop, Premiere or comparable design and editing software
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office suite, with particularly strong excel specialization).

All candidates who indicate fluency in French will undertake a French language assessment (written and verbal) as part of the selection process.

This is a contract position starting January 3, 2022 and ends on January 3, 2023, with possibility of renewal. The salary will be $44,000 annually, less applicable statutory deductions, which will be paid to the successful candidate twice a month.

This position is based at Historica Canada’s Head Office in Toronto. However, qualified distance candidates will be considered. Please note: all of Historica Canada’s team is currently working remotely. Once it is deemed safe and advisable to do so by the City’s public health authorities, and in accordance with Historica Canada’s Remote Work Policy, staff may choose to work from the office, or continue to work remotely.

When Covid-19 public health guidelines allow for it, this position may require travel (air and ground) within Canada and subject to government safety protocols.
