Shailen joined the organization in 2012 with previous experience in both the financial and not-for-profit sectors. He earned his C.A. while at KPMG at the outset of his career, and later added an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business. Shailen’s responsibilities at Historica Canada include: Board liaison, Human Resources, Treasury, strategic contracts, and participation in sponsorship and fundraising. Shailen fancies himself an amateur historian, but has strenuously hidden this—until now—from his colleagues at Historica whom he considers to be eminently more qualified and knowledgeable. In his spare time, Shailen reads, cycles, and moonlights as (unpaid) chauffeur to two teenage sons. Shailen’s parents arrived in Canada from East Africa and he grew up in Waterloo, ON—so his favourite Heritage Minute is, of course, The Water Pump.
