Historica Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Valdemar ‘Val’ Amigo as the new Director of its Ottawa-based Encounters With Canada program.

Mr. Amigo has long experience in the youth sector. He is presently the Manager of Operations for the Forum for Young Canadians, where he has worked since 1996. He is also a long-time volunteer in minor sports in minor hockey and football programs.  A native of Gatineau, Quebec, he holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bishop’s University and a degree in Social Sciences from Champlain Regional College. He is fluent in English, French and Portuguese.

Reporting to the Vice-President of Operations of Historica Canada, Mr. Amigo will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of EWC, which annually hosts more than 3,000 students for one-week sessions at its facility in the Manor Park area of Ottawa.  The program, now in its 37th year, offers students from coast-to-coast-to-coast the opportunity to discover their country through each other, learn about Canadian institutions, meet famous and accomplished Canadians, explore career options, and develop civic leadership skills within a fully bilingual environment.

Mr. Amigo will begin his new role with Historica Canada May 1. Please join me in wishing him well.
