Montreal, July 10, 2016 – Local veterans, city officials, history enthusiasts and members of the Italian community in Montreal joined The Memory Project at Notman House to commemorate the anniversary of the beginning of Canada’s participation in the Italian campaign. Clips from two documentaries, Bond of Strangers: The Operation Husky Story and Piazza Petawawa – The Paradox, were screened for attendees.

Peacekeeper Capt. Karl Morel began the evening sharing memories of his service. After the two documentary clips were played, Capt. Morel, Honourary Lieutenant Colonel of 2nd field regiment, Stephen Gregory (Funder of documentary Operation Husky: Bond of Strangers) and Salvatore Cimmino (President of CIBPA Montreal, Canadian Italian Business and Professionals) participated in a lively Question and Answer period.

“Post–Second World War, many Italians chose to immigrate to Canada and make Montréal their home, leaving the city with a strong and vibrant Italian community. It is important to gather tonight to commemorate the Canadian contribution to the Italian campaign with next generation of Montreal-based Italian-Canadians,” said Brigitte d’Auzac, Director of Programs and Development at Historica Canada.

Through The Memory Project, veterans and active service members share their military experiences in classrooms and with community groups across Canada, reaching 1.5 million Canadians since 2001. For more information, visit thememoryproject.com.
