The Historica-Dominion Institute mourns the passing of Laurier LaPierre, whose contributions to Canada came in many forms.  A distinguished academic, journalist, Senator and Officer of the Order of Canada, he was a great friend of The Historica-Dominion Institute in general and our Encounters With Canada Program in particular.  For 11 years, he was actively involved in our EWC program as a popular speaker and leader of the youth engagement module.  As a reflection of his engagement, he allowed EWC in recent years to establish a scholarship fund in his name to help defray the registration fees of students in need so that they could attend programs.

Mr. LaPierre asked that in lieu of flowers, those individuals wishing to honour his memory should contribute to the Laurier LaPierre Scholarship Fund in order to continue his good work in assisting young Canadians.  Anyone wishing to make such a contribution may do so online by clicking here  - please select “Donate to a Program” under Fund Designation, and choose Encounters with Canada from the options listed.

All donations over $10 will receive a charitable tax receipt.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. in Ottawa at Notre Dame Basilica, 385 Sussex Drive.
