Halifax—June 6, 2012—CBC host Louise Renault led Halifax students in a quiz show-style competition today at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Based on The Historica-Dominion Institute’s War of 1812 Education Guide and Online Quiz, the competition challenged students to match wits on 1812 trivia just in time for the official Bicentennial launch later this month. Students from Caledonia JHS and Prince Andrew HS competed, with Prince Andrew High School taking home the win, and prizes like DVDs of the Heritage Minutes and Historica-Dominion T-Shirts. Following the Quiz, East Coast rockers The Motorleague kicked up the Cancon a notch with musical interpretations of celebrated Heritage Minutes including “Laura Secord”, which was commissioned specially for the event.

The Institute’s War of 1812 Bicentennial Education Campaign, which aims to inform students about this seminal conflict in Canadian history through engaging and interactive activities, was made possible with the generous support of TD Bank Group.

“We are thrilled to be in Halifax, home to a rich legacy of 1812 history, to launch our national education campaign with local students and local talent,” said Jeremy Diamond, Director at The Historica-Dominion Institute.

“We are proud to join with The Historica- Dominion Institute in engaging Canadians of all ages in Canada’s history with the War of 1812 Education Guide and Online Quiz,” said Brian Gervais, Senior Vice President, Atlantic Region, TD Canada Trust. “This is a significant period in our history, in which Atlantic Canada played a vital role.”
