Actor, and television and film producer Al Waxman was born at Toronto. As Larry King, the title character of the CBC sitcom King of Kensington (1975–80), Waxman became one of Canada's most familiar actors. Following his death in 2001, a statue was erected in Toronto’s Kensington Market neighbourhood — it depicts Waxman holding court beside a set of benches in the area’s central park.
