Clement Ligoure

“In spite of the warnings, I worked steadily both night and day, doing outside work on the hundreds who were scattered all over.” The first Black doctor in Nova Scotia, Trinidadian-born Clement Ligoure worked tirelessly in the weeks following the Halifax Explosion (1917) as he attended to the injured – free of charge – both at his own hospital and throughout the district. Learn about Dr. Ligoure’s experience of the disaster in his own words this #HistoryWeek2023
